he US ambassador in Haiti, Ms Pamela White, has been claiming a few days ago that Haiti is on the move.  There is no better way to express the current public feelings. Believe it or not, there exists a Haitian momentum. Haitians politicians may think something else, but, Haiti is about to change for better or worse.

Anyway Haitians families living aboard start touring their country, going far in the countryside. “Don’t stay at P-au-P” a member of the Lemaine family affirms. Almost twelve people from  this Petit- Gave- based old family have delighted being back home to see with their own eyes what Haiti looks  like, at the end of 2013.

Robert Lemaine, a teacher, is the only one of this family still living in Haiti. Her sister, Nadia, is proud of him. “Robert wants to help” she said, but, as Christmas was there, Robert has welcome sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews. Together they had headed for South, stopping by anywhere along the Southern peninsula bathing in the Caribbean seas.

Jacmel, the Haitian capital of tourism, is at the top of their agenda. They had been watching the fall of Basin bleu, and the Jacmel streets still breathing a kind of 19^th century look. Mirage , the famous hotel, is not too far.  But, homesick or not, the Lemaine family is rather fond  of Pt-Goave. By the way, there is no more question to sell the wooden gingerbread house by the sea built or bought by grandpa. Petit Goave that the novelist Dany Laferriere had put on the world map still attracts visitors and natives. The youngest of this family have already fallen in love with this past city while eating mangos in their resort at P-au-P.

BROOKLYN,NY

However, in the US, some tragedy had happened in the NY Haitian community. Three young sisters from a Brklyn based  family , have succumbed to smoke inhalation  as fire broke out in their house. The Haitian Diaspora still mourns those young women   and had gathered in support with the rest of the family.

A 72-year old Haitian named Dessources had been killed in a car accident at Avenue D, in the last days of December. The driver went away. Hit and run, notice the NYD Police.

Grandma Mireille at Ave D, wants to keep the Christmas spirit high. Even with some reluctance, Michou who likes gathering for any holiday her family comprising of Kenols, Mirvilles and Batailles, had offered a diner in the beginning of January. People came as far away as Maryland or Spring Valley to enjoy good food as snow was swirling outside. Bad weather, the forecast said, but it is still heartening to spend together Christmas. It is sharing season, claims Dunkin Donuts. “ My dad died, the year we didn’t light the Christmas tree”, concludes Michou.

MIAMI

Marie Antoinette Buteau, co owner with her husband of  Coconut Breeze at Port Salut, holds a phone business and a guest house for visitors. Both of them are doing well. They love the sandy beaches of Macaya and their coming friends and acquaintances in this Southern remote place. The Buteau have been visiting their mother Raymonde Woel in the South West, Miami

In the South West, at Miami, Fl, M. Victor Taujours had enjoyed on his own this Holiday Season. Diner by the pool with buffet lighted up by candles. The same went for the Nau family in Orlando. Ms Simone D. Marchand, a friend of ours, was delighted as she observed how much talented is Dr Maryse Nau when welcoming home her guests at Palm Bay. It is glamorous, said Ms Marchand.

Our friend Lonlon Metayer has also spent the holiday, at the eve of Christmas, with his family at a diner party.

NY, NY

But, on Lexington, NY, NY, by the E 44^th  street, at Pret A Manger, a  sort of fast food chain, by 10H.PM, customers have been treated very nicely. A gentle and young waitress   has been acting as a lady moved by the holiday spirit by  sharing with her customers. “ Take what you want” . it was very gracious of her. Anyone seemed to be happy for so while serving  themselves with smile and gratitude.

Nearby, in the Village, at French Roast,  at the corner of 11^th St and 6^th Ave, customers made some wish at 12 H.PM while lifting up their glasses of champagne. Young women and managers hurried outside to hug a crying tall Black who used to perform here as a singer.  We were told he was a former soap opera actor. There,  the holiday spirit had prevailed.

FRANCE

Rue des Fougeres, not too far from Paris, Delbocs family reunited for Christmas holiday. Frank and her Haitian born wife, Madrid, went to have diner with  their family and in laws. Frank who is a very family man still enjoyed eating and spending spare time at home .

LIGHT FESTIVAL

Big traveling companies such as Travelhouse.uk and Glo holiday display for writers and bloggers what is happening during the holiday seasons. In the Northern countries, even under snow, light is something to watch whether in London, Sydney or Paris. It seems that the world is longing for light and its celebrations.
