ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE BAVARIA

A small city with red roofs and remote horizons, Bamberg is part of Bavaria known the world over for its Black Forest and ancient German myths. But, recently, Bamberg has started to export not only its lifestyle, skills and light industry but also a vision of life and especially assistance and help that have nothing to do with the so called CNN effect with controversial results.

HPB, the acronym for Haiti Bamberg Project, without publicity, wants Haiti and its people to be part of any help Bamberg’s professionals are bringing to this Caribbean country of almost 10 million people.

Bamberg
That is the mantra of a Bamberg based thoracic surgeon, Dr. Thomas Bohrer. “I love your country,“ Dr. Bohrer keeps saying. Even when he was underway to Cap Haitian in the heights of Puylboreau, he found enough time to send email from his cell phone to praise the beauty of Haiti.

HPB was born in the aftermath of the 2010 earthquake. At this time, Mr. Jean R. Saget, the current Haitian ambassador who was campaigning for Haiti rescue, made known its inspiring voice in Europe.

Dr. Bohrer had fallen in love with Haiti long time ago. Today, to give a hand to Haiti, he continues to welcome and train Haitian doctors and nurses in order to improve their service in their motherland.

To raise funds for the HPB, Dr. T. Bohrer and des Deutschen Arztechores und des Bayerischen Arzteorchesters the doctors‘ Orchestra of Bamberg will be giving a concert on June 13. Dr. Bohrer dreams big for Haiti, but has been starting from the very beginning. So he is not in a hurry, because one day the little fish will be a big one.

Dr. T. Bohrer lives in Bamberg.
