MAJOR LENER RENAULD

A STAR AT THE  45 OAS ASSEMBLY
I
n a time of uncertainties, few men have kept so much faith.

Major Lener Renault is someone you don't need to be acquainted with too much. A very open minded scholar with  a lot  of  credentials in his  resume, Major Lener Renault continues a tradition back to the early 30's when, at the twilight of the Haitian times, something new was being launched Haiti. After the US Marines left, Haiti started to breath  new life through into its institutions, against all odds and uneasiness.

Sixty years later, the Haitian army vanished again because of  politics and  a kind of nationwide betrayal. "When I saw so many people stepping out to welcome the US army, I felt ashamed; to die for haiti is worthless," the Major whispered.

However with a glow of happiness enlightening his face, this major represents the last embodiment  of Haitian pride. Born in the mid-fifties and having attended the Freres du Sacre Cœur College Canado School,  the Haitian minister, Lener Renault became a starlike cadet at the Haitian Military Academy a few years after having tried studying medicine. There, he was brilliant enough to be tapped by his superiors. The future would be sunny, many thought about this new officer.
In the fall of 1994, the fate of the Haitian Army was sealed. Politics is still a blindful god. The Haitian army was about to be disbanded and its best men exiled or killed, leaving the country bound for worst.

Major Lener Renauld however, kept his faith.

Today among flags, desks; emblems and Latin people eager to make history; the Haitian Foreign minister and defense as well,  has been unanimously elected president of the 45th assembly of the OAS. A few days before, the Haitian President, Mr. Michel Martelly  became  the current president of  the Brussels meeting of the Cariforum. Haiti is on the move, noted some observers, in spite of the on going Haitian Dominican debate.

A man with an insatiable desire for learning, Major L. Renault belongs to a beautiful range of officers who want to build up a new army with as much leadership and civil commitment as possible. Having attended  the best Haitian and overseas colleges, Major Renault had been through European, Asian and American schools and  could master  many areas of studies such as hemispheric defense and narcotic issues before being called to the Haitian Defense minister and Foreign Affairs.  Now as  the current president of the 45 assembly of the OAS, Major Renault leads the Haitian foreign policy at a time Haiti is on the precipice of changing for the best. This lucky and smiling diplomat continues to draw inspiration from his Haitian past, great models and family challenges:

A  father who even in exile has been helping his children with their homework, Major Renault still believes in family values and education, the backbone of  any society. One could understand what he wants for Haiti along with friends and loved ones and why Haiti is worth dying for.

One of his daughters, Joana Renault, 24,  who dreams of being a lawyer seems to follow into the footsteps of her father.
