THE AMERICAN QUESTION

A TWO-FACED COUNTRY

A
s every human dream, the  so-called American dream is essentially oriented to the future, but why does this country value so much its past? This a sort of dilemma which  still fascinates in America where every one expects happy tomorrows.

When asked however about where they come from, ordinary Americans turn to the past. Revisiting it,  they mention family roots, town, school and job background.  The more sophisticated would add  elaborated details about  their forefathers’ achievements , whether in European remote battlefield or the nearby soccer field . Some, a little more committed to late loved ones, would make a kind of family pilgrimage to pay their respects, with  eyes misted and  moving memories. Past is past, but, how much  past can define present or highlight it is  something  a few can understand.

In a broader sense, this people which venerates the Mayflower pilgrims and ends up tracking their route, remains stuck to its holidays like a kind of  national identity aimed at boosting their feeling as  American citizens with their  beliefs and vocation. American past is a matter of identity recognition. Going that far, booming business rely on the way Americans are highlighting national memories and family ones. It is even said that past has shaped the American character.

But thanks God, this  past culture doesn’t wall them up in immobility. The famous worlds of the  late president Richard Nixon: “I don’t live in the past” seem to echo a nationwide psyche  that many associate with  a kind of resiliency, the sort that  even keeps America from falling where the rest of the world has placed  it. Nowadays, most Americans went back to the past just to get the best of it. Even failures would be lived as seeds of success and moral teachings.

This is because this country is more than any other one a country  aware of change, and believe or not, even the ones that  could shake  them the most . This need of change has  nothing to do with the future shock of Alvin Toffler, to be precise. For, even if we don’t mull over  the speed of  change in our every day life,  we invest essentially into the future. From this  perspective, the future is rather something near or far away we are dreaming of. Like the Roman God, Janus, we side up with the future when it happens to ponder what it  will be with respects to our lives and our tomorrows.

GLOBE TROTTING WITH GLOHOLIDAY -CLAUDE SAINT ROME-TRAVELHOUSEUK.....Frantz Bataille

GLOBE TROTTING...

CLAUDE SAINT ROME
"I am an artist a painter, love taking pictures of nature, on that field for 50 years now. A former air traffic controller. I made 3 documentaries on Haiti . I got on book Port-au-Prince Before and After The Quake Jan 12. Welcome to my page Happy new year Planet Earth 2013. Enjoy the ride ".
So spoke a Haitian born photograph  Claude  Saint Rome about his country.

La Gonave sunset
A lover of Mother Nature, M.St Rome went everywhere in the so called Magic Island. Nowhere else, to tell the truth, the landscape is so miscellaneous . Remember. To Napoleon eager to know what Haiti, then Saint Domingue, looked like, an officer threw a smashed piece of paper on the desk. Haiti is all mountains and valleys.

But, there is more than a worn out land. Here is a golden sunset on la GONAVE.

Bois Jalousie
While la Gonave at dusk is blazing, St Rome’s camera cannot let us overlook Jalousie nearby Petion Ville, a kind of slum city. Jalousie is now a kaleidoscope as if artists here were glancing at poverty though paints and a lot of shades of colors. However, Foret des Pins with its feathers of fog contrast with  those crowded places that seem to seal the   Port-au prince’s fate.

Jacmel Bassin Bleu
Far away from Petion Ville and Jalousie, it happily happens that Jacmel is still a place to be in. St Rome displays for our delight Bassin Bleu and the smoky mountains of Dame Marie laid on  Grande Anse’s shores. Dame marie seen from the Macaya steps offers an unexpected view on the sea.

Dame Marie, the Smoky gun

Mole  St Nicolas
Obviously, our photograh is a fan of the sea. Mole St Nicolas, a remote and unknown city in the Far West, has nothing to do apparently with modern life. M. St Rome shoots at its plummeting into the sea. But this place founded back to Colombus’s arrival in the Americas continues to show up with   a lot of marble graves back to the French settlement. Mole St Nicolas is a few miles away from Cuba.

GLOHOLIDAY AND TRAVELHOUSE UK
BERMUDAS
I do not know how much architecture hold something still phenomenal. We can watch at this woman side the Bermuda seas and its turquoise waters. The Caribbean remain unbeatable  with regards to tourism. Gloholiday, as a big travel agency, succeeds at motivating people to reinvent themselves through travelling and openness to another culture and identities.

ICELAND
Iceland, still a new comer on the map, given its remoteness, like anything coming from far, has everything to attract and amaze. TravelhouseUK displays the big spa of Iceland. People said it is a place where Gengis Khan had been  horse riding through..

BOSTWANA

Look at finally the elephants at the Bostwana Wild life. We think of the famous poem of Leconte de Lisle, a French writer. He wrote a piece about the time a herd of elephants going thirsty  to  the river.

SOCIETY & HISTORY

TIBER LOVERS

LOVE & HISTORY

R
ivers do not always  happen to  make history,  but most of the time. they witness  this history  at its making .
So did  the famous Tiber, the longest in Roma.

According to legends, a wolf breast fed Remus and Romulus, the  two brothers credited for having founded  the eternal city. It was at the beginning as Eneus left Troy burning after the collapse of this city. From then, the Tiber that overlooked Roma became part of social and political life, back to Nero times when young Italians were dreaming onshore while promising each other faithfulness  along this river still meaning a lot for them.
The Tiber keeps flowing, but lovers, in a fight to make their passion endure, started writing messages they locked on a lamp. Too many of those artifacts call for attention and the left wing mayor wanted a fee to protect the history aspect of the city. What ignited lovers and politicians. People affirmed that  two  novels by Frederico Moccia were not  innocent on this move: Tre Metri sopra il Cielo ( Three meters above the sky) and Ho Voglia di te ( I desire you) remain still today a kind of bible for teenagers and young Italians tormented by love.

“The so-called love padlock Craze” ensued.

In the meantime, Love padlocks have inspired a music to the  singer Tiziano Ferro producing a video   and  a film with director Luis Prieto about this Roman fire. A curse linked apparently to this river had something to do with  a famous battle  on Ponte Milvio between Maxentius and Constantine, two pretenders for the title of Roman emperor, on 28 October 312. So much explains maybe the creation of a literary prize"The Golden Padlock" - which is awarded on Ponte Milvio every year on Saint Valentine's Day, 14 February.
But whatever happened,  politics in  city office and some where else could not stop youngsters  from  vowing  themselves love for ever  the way Tiber flows since immemorial  times.

Sic transit Gloria mundi, a Latin saying noted, long time ago.

N'ETEINS JAMAIS TA FLAMME ET ENCORE MOINS CELLE DES AUTRES

N'ETEINS JAMAIS TA FLAMME

Ce sont des esclaves et les enfants perdus des sociétés libres;

Si tu éteins ton feu, tu n’as plus ta place ici bas

Cree plutot ton propre beau temps…

THE CHILDREN OF FUTURE

THE CHILDREN OF FUTURE

I
f we want to save the future from failures and at the same time keep our world away from wars along with the 20th century’s ghosts, we have to save first the souls and what we make our times still beautiful: that is to say, the childhood and its  illusions…

Nobody knows so far  what the future looks like, because future is like these countries from which people never come back, alas! But,  even though we house our past as a mirror of our future, mystery stills endures.  We pretend however to be able to create or invent our future. Why does future repeat past?

Let’s our children talk and act. Maybe the future is there

PUERTO RICO

GLOBAL VILLAGE : A SQUIRREL IN THE DARK

A BORDERLESS WORLD

I
t seems there is any longer unknown land on our planet.

Internet fans across the globe have started a vigil after a 16-year old boy in Portland, Or had  hanged up a sign promoting Obama that unknown hands promptly removed. From then, the boy named Perston  Fosback set up a camera watching his sign and attached to a internet device. Hoping to catch the bad people involved in this matter, the camera internet –oriented made  this event go global,  attracting viewers as for away from  Turkey, Australia and Europe. It would  be the first time spectators were watching simultaneously an event despite their different zone times.
There were so squirrels to blame. Instead, two girls came in the darkness moving something by the sign. Viewers shouted: People , People! and urged to call 911. In vain, because the Obama fan family, that is, the boy and  his mother were sleeping.  Viewers  couldn’t do anything but shoot more and more. Preston concluded the magic of internet is to make the simplest things extraordinary”

But, by the time this innocent sign was being  watched, a kind of global team spirit was born between not only the sign that was being looked at, but also by the way it was regarded. The online forum which ensued has been showing how   a lot of differences  were fading away when people were  about to  to build up something they were committed to. Every viewer wanted the  sign to be safe. It would be not the first time the world have been involved in the same challenge. But, it would be the first time a border less event would be watched far away and by a lot of people with a common desire to be part of a huge and human adventure.
The global village was born.
